Who Is Kennen in Riftbound?
Kennen is the ninth and final confirmed Legend in Riftbound’s Vendetta set, revealed on July 20, 2026. He runs the Chaos and Order domains, and he’s built entirely around Vendetta’s new Flow mechanic, which lets you play cards straight out of your trash instead of your hand. If Vendetta has a signature “graveyard value” Legend, it’s Kennen.
Kennen’s Legend Ability: The Flow Empower Engine

In plain English: any time you play a card from somewhere other than your hand, Kennen becomes Empowered. In practice, that mostly means Flow cards played from your trash, though it also covers Hidden cards revealed from a battlefield and any other effect that plays a card from outside your hand. Once Kennen is Empowered, you can spend an action to Disempower him and exhaust him, and in exchange any unit you choose gets Assault 2, meaning +2 Might while it’s attacking.
The loop is simple once you see it: play a Flow card from the trash, Kennen Empowers, spend that Empower to buff an attacker, repeat. Every Flow play is a potential Assault 2 trigger. How Kennen Plays
A Kennen deck wants to fill the trash with Flow cards early, then spend the rest of the game playing them back out for value and Empower triggers. The more Flow cards you run, the more consistently Kennen Empowers, and the more Assault 2 buffs you can hand out during combat. Pairing this with Burn effects speeds the whole engine up, since Burn is one of the fastest ways to get cards into the trash where Flow can use them.
This makes Kennen less of a straightforward beatdown Legend and more of an engine builder. Your early turns are about setting up the trash. Your late turns are about cashing it in.
Is Kennen Competitive?
Kennen launches with Vendetta on July 31, so there’s no tournament data yet. Honestly, I’d treat any pre-launch competitive claim about him with caution, including mine. What we do know is that his engine rewards deck density in Flow and Burn cards more than raw stats, so his ceiling depends heavily on how many good Flow cards Vendetta actually ships with. If you want a Vendetta deck built around the Flow mechanic, filling your trash and playing cards back out of it, Kennen turns that habit into a repeatable Assault 2 buff every single time. If that sounds fiddly and you’d rather have a more direct plan, Akali or Mel are simpler starting points into Vendetta.
