Who Is Akali in Riftbound?
Akali is one of nine Legends confirmed for Vendetta, playing in the Calm domain. Her title, Rogue Assassin, tells you most of what you need to know before you even read a card. Most Riftbound Legends want to conquer a battlefield and sit there, holding what they have taken. Akali does not want to sit anywhere.
Her identity is attack-and-retreat. She conquers a battlefield with a unit, then pulls that unit back to base before the opponent can punish it, and readies it so it can go again. If you have played a deck that rewards patience, Akali asks you to unlearn that. She rewards tempo, timing, and a willingness to keep your units moving instead of parked.

Akali’s Legend Ability: Empower Explained
Akali’s Legend ability costs 3 energy and 1 Calm to activate, and the card text is specific: use it only if she is not already Empowered. Once she is Empowered, her action unlocks. On your turn, you can move a friendly unit that is in a showdown back to base, and if Akali is Empowered, that unit readies as it returns.
A unit that has already conquered a battlefield gets pulled to safety and comes back ready to act again the same turn. You are not choosing between holding ground and protecting your units. Akali lets you do both, on a timer you control.

How Akali Plays
In practice, a typical Akali turn looks like this. Send a unit into a showdown and conquer a battlefield. Pay Akali’s Empower cost so she enters her Empowered state. On a later turn, once Akali is Empowered, move the unit that conquered back to base and ready it in the same action. That unit is now free to attack again, and the battlefield it took stays conquered.
The honest beginner reaction here: this looks fiddly on paper and plays faster than it reads. Once you have done the sequence once at the table, it clicks. The skill in an Akali deck is timing the Empower activation so the retreat-and-ready happens exactly when you need the tempo, not a turn early or a turn late.

Akali is a confirmed Tier 2 competitive legend in the Vendetta format. At RQ Singapore, the first APAC Regional Qualifier with 2,164 players, Gorica piloted Akali to a 14-1-1 record and won the event outright. Her trajectory through the Vendetta format has been one of the most remarkable in the game’s competitive history: zero Top 8 appearances at Barcelona, a Top 16 finish the same weekend with a revised VEN-044 build, a Top 8 at the Wuhan Regional Open (August 29), and an RQ win three weeks later.
