How Viktor Plays
Viktor is a Mind and Order deck. The two domains together give you access to removal spells, board control tools, and steady card draw. You will not be throwing everything at your opponent on turn one. Viktor is about setting up, staying patient, and slowly taking over.
The Recruit Strategy
The core of the deck is Viktor’s Legend ability: spend 1 Energy and tap Viktor to put a Recruit unit onto your base or a battlefield you control. Recruits are small 1/1 units (1 Might, 1 toughness). On their own they are not threatening, but the deck is built around making lots of them and using them in combination with spells and support cards.
I will be honest about what this means in practice: you will not always win through sheer force. Viktor wins by outlasting your opponent. You clear their units with removal spells, keep generating Recruits, and conquer battlefields that your opponent has been forced to abandon. It is satisfying when it works, but it does require you to think a couple of turns ahead.
On the learning curve: Viktor is the most skill-intensive of the three Origins Champion Decks. I want to name that directly, because I think it puts some people off who would actually love it. The strategy itself is not complicated. The deck does the same thing every game: generate Recruits, use removal to protect them, take battlefields. What takes a few games to learn is recognising when to do each thing. The deck is consistent enough that you will see the same situations repeat, and once you have seen them a couple of times you will know exactly what to do. The learning curve is real, but it is not steep.

Who Is Viktor For?
Viktor suits players who prefer thinking over rushing. If you liked the idea of building up a board over several turns and then winning through patience rather than speed, this is your deck. You are not going to be attacking with enormous units on turn two.
Viktor is also a good choice if you want a deck that has real competitive potential without needing a lot of upgrades. As of the current Spiritforged season, Viktor consistently places in regional top cuts. The starter deck gives you a solid foundation that is closer to tournament-viable than any of the other Origins Champion Decks out of the box.
On the other hand, if you prefer an aggressive playstyle where you are always the one applying pressure, the Jinx Champion Deck is likely a better match. Viktor asks you to react and control, not to dictate the pace from turn one.
Is the Viktor Champion Deck Worth Buying?
If you are the kind of person who reads the instructions before playing a board game, who likes knowing why a move is good rather than just that it worked, who finds more satisfaction in a plan coming together than in a lucky swing that won by surprise: Viktor was designed for you. Buy it.
What makes Viktor stand out compared to the other Origins decks is that the competitive scene has validated it. Players have taken decks built on the same core Viktor strategy to tournament top cuts, meaning the upgrades you eventually buy are likely to be genuinely useful rather than just cosmetic improvements.
The starter deck does include some cards that competitive builds cut, such as Orb of Regret, Jeweled Colossus, and Eager Apprentice. Those slots get replaced with more focused removal as you upgrade. But you do not need to worry about that on day one.
Upgrade Path
You can play the starter deck as-is for a while without feeling outgunned. When you are ready to take the next step, the competitive Viktor list focuses on piling in more removal and token generation, and cutting the cards that do not fit that plan.
