There are five riftbound unleashed products launching with Set 3 on May 8, 2026: the Vi Champion Deck, the Vex Champion Deck, the Unleashed Vault, individual booster packs, and a Booster Display. If you want the short answer: complete beginners should start with a Champion Deck plus the Vault, returning players can go straight to packs or the display, and anyone buying as a gift is best served by the Vault on its own. The set introduces three new mechanics, Ambush, XP, and Hunt, alongside over 220 cards and the Dark Glow showcase series. The full breakdown below covers exactly what each product contains, who it is actually for, and where to buy.
Page last updated: March 16, 2026. Preview season runs March 16 through March 27, with card reveals daily at riftbound.leagueoflegends.com. Individual booster pack pricing and any additional product details will be confirmed and updated here as preview season progresses. Check back after March 16 for the latest.
Quick Recommendation Table
Not sure where to start? This table gives you the one-line version. The full breakdown for each product is further down the page.
| Product | Best For | Approx Price | Buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vi Champion Deck | New players who want an aggressive, hard-hitting playstyle | $19.99 | TCGPlayer |
| Vex Champion Deck | New players who prefer a slower, more controlling approach | $19.99 | TCGPlayer |
| Unleashed Vault | Anyone joining Riftbound with Unleashed as their first set | $34.99 | TCGPlayer |
| Booster Display | Collectors and competitive players who want volume | Approx $120 | TCGPlayer |
| Booster Pack | Returning players expanding an existing collection | Approx $5.00 | TCGPlayer |
Vi Champion Deck
The riftbound Vi deck is a 56-card preconstructed deck built around one idea: buff your units and hit hard. Vi’s strategy is straightforward and satisfying to learn on, which is exactly what you want from your first deck. You are putting pressure on the opponent from the opening turns, not waiting around for a combo to come together.
This is the better starting pick if you tend to prefer aggressive strategies in other games, or if you are not sure what you prefer and just want something that feels decisive. There is less second-guessing involved in an aggressive deck when you are still learning the rules.
What Is in the Box
| Item | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Preconstructed deck | 56 cards |
| Unleashed booster pack | 1 |
| Full-size paper playmat | 1 |
| Custom paper deckbox | 1 |
| Rules and deck-building guide booklet | 1 |
The included booster pack is a good bonus. It gives you something to crack open on day one and a handful of Unleashed cards to look through while you are getting your head around the base deck. You are not going to build a new deck from one pack, but it gives you an early look at what is in the set.
Note that Runes are not included in the Champion Deck. If this is your first Riftbound purchase and you do not already own Runes from a previous set, you will need to pick those up separately. The easiest way to solve that is to grab the Unleashed Vault alongside this deck, which includes a full Rune set as part of the bundle.
Vex Champion Deck
The riftbound Vex deck is the slower half of the Unleashed precon pairing. Where Vi rushes in immediately, Vex works by incrementally grinding down opponents while holding battlefields and making them run out of good answers. You are thinking two or three turns ahead and letting your opponent make mistakes rather than forcing them through raw pressure.
This is the better pick if you prefer a more deliberate pace, or if you have played TCGs before and tend to gravitate toward control or midrange strategies. It is also the natural choice if you are buying both decks to play against a friend, since Vi vs Vex gives you a genuinely interesting matchup right out of the box.
What Is in the Box
| Item | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Preconstructed deck | 56 cards |
| Unleashed booster pack | 1 |
| Full-size paper playmat | 1 |
| Custom paper deckbox | 1 |
| Rules and deck-building guide booklet | 1 |
The same Rune caveat applies here as with the Vi deck. The Vex deck does not include Runes. If you are new to Riftbound, pick up the Vault alongside it to get everything you need in one go.
Unleashed Vault
The riftbound vault is a new product type that Riot introduced with Unleashed, and it is the product I would point most new players toward first. It is not just a bundle of packs. It includes the Runes you actually need to build and play decks, which is the thing that often catches beginners out when they start buying sealed product and then realise they cannot play any of it.
What Is in the Box
| Item | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Unleashed booster packs | 6 |
| Runes (6 of each type) | 36 total |
| Double-sided full-art token card | 3 copies |
| Punch-out art dividers | 2 |
| Custom card storage box | 1 |
The value calculation here is pretty simple. Six booster packs at approximately $5.00 each comes to around $30. The Vault is $34.99. For roughly $5 more than the packs alone, you get a full Rune set, three full-art token cards, two punch-out dividers, and a storage box. If you need any of those things, and a new player almost certainly does, this is a better starting point than buying packs individually.
The Vault is also the strongest gift option in the Unleashed lineup. It is a self-contained package that feels complete, which makes it much easier to hand to someone who is curious about the game without having to explain what else they need to buy.
One note for collectors: Unleashed introduces a new Ultimate rarity to Riftbound, and the only Ultimate Rare in the set is Baron Nashor. Riot has confirmed it appears in under 0.1% of packs, making it the rarest card the game has ever printed. Every pack in the Vault is a valid shot at pulling one.
Booster Display
A riftbound booster display contains 24 Unleashed packs at an MSRP of approximately $120, putting the per-pack cost at around $5.00. If you are serious about building a competitive deck or chasing the Dark Glow alternate art cards, this is the most efficient way to do it. Buying singles on TCGPlayer is the smarter approach for targeting specific cards, but if you want the full set experience and a deep pool to build from, a display is worth it.
The more important reason to buy early is availability. Origins and Spiritforged Booster Displays both sold through at MSRP within weeks of release and became difficult to find at retail price afterward. If you are planning to buy a display, preordering before May 8 is the move. Waiting until after launch and paying secondary market prices is the only version of this purchase that does not make sense.
On average a Booster Display contains more than 6 Epic rarity cards and more than 2 special alternate art cards, consistent with box averages from Origins and Spiritforged. Unleashed also introduces the Ultimate rarity for the first time, with Baron Nashor appearing in under 0.1% of packs. A full box gives you 24 shots at it alongside the rest of the set.
If you want to build out your collection across both current sets before Unleashed arrives, the Spiritforged Display from Set 2 is also still available and worth picking up alongside your Unleashed preorder.
Booster Packs
Unleashed riftbound booster packs pull from a pool of 219 cards and 30 or more alternate art cards in the Dark Glow showcase series. Each 14-card pack contains the following slots:
| Slot | Contents |
|---|---|
| Commons | 7 |
| Uncommons | 3 |
| Foil rares or better | 2 |
| Foil of any rarity | 1 |
| Token slot | 1 |
Individual pack pricing has not yet been officially confirmed for Unleashed. Based on Origins and Spiritforged pricing, individual packs are expected to come in at approximately $5.00 each. This page will be updated once confirmed during preview season.
Individual packs make most sense as a top-up purchase once you already have a deck to build around. If you are starting from scratch, the Vault gives you better value for the same outlay.
Tariff note: Some US retailers are flagging potential price changes on Unleashed products due to ongoing import tariff changes. MSRP figures above are based on current confirmed or expected retail pricing. Check current listings at the time you order, as individual retailer prices may differ.
Pre-Rift Event Kit
A Pre-Rift Event Kit has been confirmed for Unleashed. This is a store-facing product designed to let local game stores run prerelease events for up to 16 players before May 8. Each player at the event receives a mini preconstructed deck built around one of six champion options, plus five Unleashed booster packs to crack and build from during the event.
This is not a product you buy directly. It is purchased by game stores through their distributor and used to run the event. What it means for you is that your local game store may be running a Pre-Rift event close to launch day. Playing in one is a good way to get your hands on Unleashed cards early and try out the new mechanics in a low-pressure setting.
Full pricing and event kit contents will be confirmed after the Dev Drop on March 16. This section will be updated at that point. To find a Pre-Rift event near you, check the store locator on the official Riftbound site when event registration opens.
Which Product Should I Buy?
The right answer depends on where you are starting from. Here is the straightforward breakdown by buyer type.
| Your Situation | Recommended Products | Approx Total |
|---|---|---|
| Complete beginner, never played Riftbound | Vi or Vex Champion Deck + Unleashed Vault | Approx $55 |
| New to Unleashed, want one purchase only | Unleashed Vault | $34.99 |
| Buying for two people to play together | Vi Champion Deck + Vex Champion Deck | Approx $40 |
| Returning player from Origins or Spiritforged | Champion Deck + 10 booster packs | Approx $70 |
| Collector chasing Dark Glow alternate arts | Booster Display | Approx $120 |
| Competitive player building a full deck | Booster Display + singles from TCGPlayer | Varies |
| Buying as a gift for a beginner | Unleashed Vault | $34.99 |
The most common mistake new players make is buying packs before they have a deck to build around. Packs alone do not give you enough to play with, and without Runes you cannot build anything. If you have not touched Riftbound before, start with a Champion Deck and the Vault. Everything else can come after you have played a few games and figured out what you actually want to chase.
If you are completely new to the game rather than just new to Unleashed, it is also worth knowing that the Proving Grounds starter box from Set 1 remains the most beginner-friendly entry point to the game overall. It comes with four prebuilt decks for $29.99 and is designed specifically for first-time players. Unleashed Champion Decks are playable straight away, but Proving Grounds has the more structured learning experience.
Ready to Go Deeper? Booster Displays
Once you have a deck you enjoy playing, a Booster Display is the most efficient way to expand your collection and pull toward the cards you actually want. At approximately $120 for 24 packs, you are averaging more than 6 Epics and more than 2 Dark Glow alternate arts per box. More importantly, Origins and Spiritforged both sold through at MSRP quickly and became expensive to find at retail price afterward. If a display is on your radar at all, preordering now costs you nothing extra and guarantees you pay launch price. Waiting until after May 8 to decide is the one choice that could cost you.
Where to Buy
TCGPlayer is the best option for Unleashed sealed product and singles. Multiple sellers compete on price, shipping is fast, and you can filter by condition. Preorders for all confirmed products are live now.
Amazon is worth checking for sealed product, particularly if TCGPlayer stock runs short close to launch or if you prefer combined shipping with other orders.
Your local game store is also worth checking around launch. Pre-Rift events will be running at participating stores close to May 8, and buying there supports your local play community. Stock at LGS will vary, so calling ahead before making a trip is sensible.
